Gender Knowledge Is Gender Power
Trump 2.0 is gonna lose the gender wars, cuz they don't have clue one as to what they are talking about, and we do.
The attacks on trans and nonbinary people are currently focused solely on biology and identity. Trump 2.0, and a chunk of right wing Europe are all hyped up on what they call gender ideology. It’s not an ideology. It is in fact a well thought out theory, or philosophy of identity and embodiment which they are currently unable and unwilling to understand. Luckily, their lack of understanding is a great big weakness, and we can take advantage of that weakness.
Gender is a composite phenomenon. It’s made up of six distinct and interacting major parts, which I’ve represented in this cute little hand illustration.
The Trump 2.0 attack on us is all based on gender assignment. He assumes he’s got the power to assign us gender—and he believes we should meekly bow our heads and go along with his naive assignment. He says it’s all biology, and then he uses outdated mid 20th century science as proof. (Science has since disproved the notion that there are two and only two biological sexes.)
Winning the gender wars begins with fully understanding gender. We must learn each of gender’s parts, how all those parts interact, and how they all add up to the matrix that is gender. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting a series of short essays, one on each of six main components of gender. I will be focusing on how the knowledge of each of these will give us the upper hand in our fight to stay free.
Stay safe. Stay strong. I love you. Watch this space.
Having delved into gay history before right now, it seems like the queer had been under attack for roughly over 100 years—and is almost keeping pace to what is happening to African-Americans like me. Both of these groups of people had been shamed, harassed, murdered, beaten, disqualified, put down, denied, rejected, ostracized, and in worst cases—bashed or belittled. It started with the Billy Strayhorn story, where he was denied being in the top jazz musician spot by Duke Ellington, after Billy was openly gay. Then, there was the Stonewall Riots (leading to the rise of Gay Pride parades), gay disco and the backlashing blowup of disco records. Later on, there was a resurgence of gays through civil union laws, and songs like “Let’s Get Loud” and “I’m Coming Out” fueled a new rise in queer people. But then, the gays were under attack again. From the Matthew Shepard killing, to the Pulse Nightclub shooting, to the crackdown on drag storytime events at libraries, and new attacks on transgender people—and now, thanks to Trump, more crackdowns like taking away passport identities of “X” on trans people, and banning trans people from gender-affirming care…if you care about gays, you need to be concerned about the threat of these people being wiped off societally from the face of this earth!
